Aubergine '72 911E Coupe

Submitted by PhilGarner on Thu, 01/15/2009 - 08:45

Year: 1972
Colour: Aubergine
Model: 911E
Chassis: 9112200129

PGC 695K was originally a French car, bought in Paris by a Dr. Frank Calachi, who in 1980 moved to London and registered the car in the UK, where it was given a suitable age-related plate.

I have owned the car since 2000, the previous owner kept it in a barn on a farm and didn't really seem to know how to fix its problems. The brakes suffered from binding, it backfired badly when warm and didn't give full throttle due to a poorly adjusted linkage. Most of that has been fixed but the MFI is still far from perfect.

The wing mounted Cibie lamps are original, it also was specified with tinted glass and an electric windows. There stereo installation was probably dealer-fit, and must have been state-of-the-art in 1972. A Philips unit, it has a cassette player, FM/AM tuner and a total of six(!) speakers. It also came complete with a microphone which could be used to record notes onto a cassette! Like most early 911s, it is pretty loud and it seems incredible this was ever used.

The car was repainted in 2005 in original 025 Aubergine, and still looks pretty good. Currently the Sportomatic system is working fine, touch wood.
