Hi Info on my sporto and me. I was born in 1942 and have been married 32 years,I learnt to drive at 11 and after leaving school at 15 I did my apprenticeship as a panel beater at a local Mercedes agent, working on things like 190 and 300sl gulwings (not classics then).I became involved in motor sport and started sprinting and racing a Elva Courier and then building and racing a MIni. I started my own repair shop and have always been interested in Porsches and did work on customers cars including complete renovations and repairs on Alvis,Bristol Porsche,Ferrari.Lamborghini and even ex Le Mann Ford GT 40 . Although we have a number of customers with Classic cars the majority of our daily work is servicing and repairing every day run of the mill cars. I do help witha couple of historic rally cars being involved in preparation and service, travelling to Ireland,Holland,Belgium and the Isle of Mann as well as events in England and Wales. After years or doing other peoples cars I decided I would like to renovate a Porsche for myself, This is how I came to buy the sporto targa.First registered in Germany in April 1971, Porsche unable to name original owner because of German law! USA vin no. The car was very rusty and I striped down most of the car and replaced the majority of the body panels, fitted new rear wings, sills and kidney bowls. where the new panels were fitted the joints were lead loaded and filed off as per factory build. All rusted areas were cut from floor and inner wings, new plates made to shape and welded in. Second hand front wings.doors and bumpers were striped to bare metal and etch primed, and I repainted the car back to the original colour condor green. I also replaced all the rubbers and carpets. The engine was checked and I fitted new oil seals clutch release bearing and spigot bearing. To finish off I fitted a new headlining and Vinyl to the targa top. I hope I havent rambled on too long Kind regards Berny. He has sent more photos & they are uploaded at:  Berny Tester's Restoration!

(Note: Berny is much too modest to mention his appearance in the UK's excellent independent Porsche publication 911 & Porsche World in February of 2003 covering this great project in detail, ed.)
