Here's a couple images of my car for your site. These photos of my 1972 911S Targa Sportomatic Euro, were taken a few years ago underneath the "L" tracks in downtown Chicago. I've enjoyed restoring this car myself for the last 10 years and I'm coming to the end of the restoration. You name it and it's been done. I've taken it to a couple local concours events and have placed well with it. There are several things I like about this car but probably the coolest thing is the Sportomatic transmission. I've done some research on the production numbers for this year, make, model.
According to the PCA's book: A Guide to Porsche Production Cars, 1948-95.
147?1972 911S Sportomatic engines were built, they might have kept, say 6 back
as spares. That leaves 141 engines that went into a body. Now figure maybe 30%
go to the States, 70% stays in Europe and then multiply by a
rust/collision/abandonment/conversion factors and that means at best there can
only be a dozen or so 1972 911S Sportomatics left. Then consider that there
were half as many Targas produced and that leaves even fewer 1972 911S Targas
Sportomatics.![]()
Best of all I can drive in Chicago traffic and still sip on my Starbucks with ease. But, when I get out into the country it's 10 and 2 on that wheel! My car is pampered but when it's asked to deliver it delivers!
I plan on keeping it at least another 10 years!
