I've decided to pull the trigger on this restoration! It's much needed since my poor car has never had a repaint since it left the factory way back in '68. Of course the rust has started to creep in but the ol' lady has held up pretty well. I believe that it's now my duty to rescue this beauty before too much damage is done and give her another 40 years of life so someone after me can have the chance to enjoy her also...so stay tuned!

My brother Jim introduced me to Phil Van Buskirk (editor of PML), who in turn referred me to
John Dayton in Signal Hill, CA. John races 911s (Willow Springs) and is a master mechanic.
John had serviced a 1970 Porsche 911T Sportomatic for a local physician. John ended up buying
the Sporto from the good doctor with the idea of giving it to his wife. Trouble was she liked her Mercedes a lot more. The car sat around for awhile before John decided to sell it. Phil Van
Buskirk, who knows every 911 in the USA, told John that a good friend's brother wanted an early

When it arrived here 14 January 2009 the temp was only about 15 degrees F. I managed to drive it about four blocks from where the enclosed trailer dropped it off (it couldn't get down my narrow side street) to my home. Since then we have only had two days with temps above freezing. With all the salt on the streets here this winter, this car is not going to leave my garage or driveway for some time.

In any case, I did start it up and back it out of the garage so that I could tidy up a bit. After that, I drove it back in and snapped this not-so-great mobile phone photo.
